With the dawn of the new millennium, Adverts-4-All
was founded, to provide a free online interactive publishing facility
for private advertisers, based in the Chelmsley Wood, Solihull area of
the West Midlands, U. K.The concept
presented itself during a period of “web-surfing,” when it became evident
that there was no presence of a site devoted to local advertisements specifically
within the area of Solihull.The local press have web sites, but ‘freely-displayed’
advertisements online were non-apparent.This vacuum on the Internet may be due to concern for a decrease
in circulation of printed media, reluctance to change, the cost of setting
up and maintaining the service, or simply I. T. complacency!As free services attract a high volume of interest, it is considered
that when our online service is fully utilised, it will attract trade
enquiries, and become a profitable commercial concern. A search of the WHOIS directory revealed that very
few “.com” registrations were available with a suitably distinctive user-friendly
name, applicable to the business use intended.After considerable thought “www.adverts-4-all.com”
was selected and registered.Since
registration, ‘Adverts-4-All’ has grown from a few bland web pages to
a comprehensive web site of over five hundred fully integrated web pages,
supported by a network of over two thousand active files, which are constantly
maintained and updated as necessary.The feature range has been extended to include all goods and services
likely to be published, and facilities have been incorporated in the program
for further expansion if required.The
animated banner displayed on the Home Page of the web site represents
our logo.Computer programs have been written and installed
to allow easy access, navigation, and submission of advertisements, enquiries,
feedback, suggestions and complaints from site visitors in addition to
an online form for visitors to contact friends and colleagues and (hopefully)
recommend us!A suitable legal
disclaimer, which is constantly under review, is posted, and attention
is drawn to this in order to avoid any possible legal problems.A counter clock, showing the number of unique
visitors to date, is incorporated in the first screen a visitor sees on
entering Adverts-4-All.Designs
have been applied to assist in the easy navigation of the site, and to
retain the interest of the user.Each
advertisement page contains animation, and tasteful colour schemes have
been applied to group the various goods and services.A menu remains in the left pane of the viewing window at all times
during a site visit, to afford easy navigation at all times, permitting
a complementary site map and search engine to be readily at hand in the
main viewing area.Adverts-4-All has subscribed to various bodies to
comply with legal requirements and acquire regular dependable ancillary
services, and has been vetted by RSAI for content and proudly boasts no
nudity, sexual explicitness, or portrayed violence, etc., and is thus
a family-oriented web site.The
logo of RSAI is posted at the foot of this page, and on other pages where
we deemed it relevant.It is ‘hyperlinked’ to the web site responsible
for “vetting” and provides assurance for all our site visitors. Resources have limited promotion of Adverts-4-All,
to date.Although a major advertising
campaign is envisaged, the only advertising pursued has been by word-of-mouth,
online recommendations of site visitors, links to other web sites, listings
in search engines, distribution of handbills, and a few local posters!The success of a web site is measured by the number
of “hits” (site visits) it receives.To date, due to limited advertising, and initial technical difficulties,
Adverts-4-All has received only a small proportion of the “hits” appropriate
for a web site of this type.Consequently,
as “hits” are the criterion for advertisers, we look forward to an improved
